There are 2 versions of the Gen 3 60V6 Timing Sets. 94-99 used the same chain as the older Gen 2 engines, but with a different cam gear for the new roller cams. The 2000+ sets used a narrower chain with more links to address noise. Both sets are compatible across the board.
The strongest option we have is the older 94-99 style with a MORSE chain. This chain uses a damper like the 3100,3400, and 3500 LX9 use. Our sets only use the OEM MORSE chain. The aftermarket chains would stretch more in 30k miles than the OEM did in 100k+
The 00+ style has its advantages, and has yet to fail us racing. Its quieter, and allows the option to replace the stock damper with a tensioner. This keeps the engine in time for a long long time, but also increases friction. More testing will need to be done to tell if there is a performance difference between the 2, new, and after a race season or 2. One of these setups lasted 7 seasons of circle track without the best maintenance in those later years, using the tensioner. We are calling this the WOT-Tech version of the 2000+ Style timing set (MORSE timing chain with tensioner)
The budget version of the 2000+ timing set uses the newer cloyes chains and a damper like stock.
