Stock vs TCE LS Internal Lifter Springs. The small spring is for the checkball, and the large spring goes under the lifter piston. |
.jpg) |
This is the hydraulic portion of the roller rocker assembly. |
.jpg) |
Vice is not necessary, unless you are taking pictures for this walkthrough. The "paperclip" style retaining clip is easy to remove with a screw driver or pick such as the one in the picture. Once a corner is out, press in on the middle portion and pull the clip out. |
.jpg) |
Once the clip is out, the pushrod socket will come right out. |
.jpg) |
Under the pushrod socket is a thin flat disc. |
.jpg) |
The disc is in the piston itself, which will not come out easily. Some compressed air lightly blown into the oil hole on the side may help (do not go full blast as this may shoot out and injure someone!). If air does not work, you may need to grab the piston and twist. |
.jpg) |
Under the piston is the larger spring. |
.jpg) |
On the bottom of the piston is a cup, which holes the checkball and small spring. The pick really works well here. |
.jpg) |
Partially pried up so you can see where the pick was poking into to raise the cup out. |

Checkball and spring. |
.jpg) |
To install the new TCE LS lifter spring, just place it in the cup like this. |
.jpg) |
Next, put the ball on top. This is the hole that the ball seats against. |
.jpg) |
Place the piston on top of the cup and press down so that is fully seated once again.
*Aftermarket replacement lifters differ here as they do require a vice to reinstall the cup into the piston/plunger*
|
.jpg) |
Next comes the large spring. |
.jpg) |
Put the large spring back into the main lifter housing. |
.jpg) |
Next goes the piston. It will not just fall back into place. Compressing in air inside will prove interesting for the final few steps. You can use a plastic pen to convince the piston to sit lower into the body if you like. |
.jpg) |
Flat disc goes back inside the piston. |
.jpg) |
Then the pushrod seat goes back in place. |
.jpg) |
Again, vice is really not necessary here unless you are taking pictures for this walkthrough. I use a pushrod to compress the piston back into the housing. Slide a corner of the clip back in place, and then then squeeze the other side into place. |

Looks normal enough, but now equipped with the TCE LS springs inside. |
